Having just dropped my last travel buddy off I headed back to Lake Atitlan and found an incredible spot to camp right next to the lake. There was this jetty sticking out into the lake where I sat watching the sunset, once again living the dream on my own. More tales from the road http://www.luckybeanz.com/

The setting was new year’s eve of 2017. While everybody was preparing to shoot fireworks, some still eating and drinking, some playing card games, your boy was out trying to figure out the optimal settings for his astrophotography. I failed it miserably, but something did come out of it.

This was taken on a flight from Munich to Latvia, around 21:30ish. The moment the sheer beauty of this hit me was when the woman next to me leaned past me and over to the window with her iPad. At that point, I began snapping furiously. Of the 53 shots of the sunset I took, this is the only one I like.

In shallow waters surrounding the Tyuleniy Archipelago in the Caspian Sea, chunks of ice were the artists. The 3-meter-deep water makes the dark green vegetation on the sea bottom visible. The lines scratched in that vegetation were caused by ice chunks, pushed upward and downward by wind and currents, scouring the sea floor.

In the small town of Manja, we went for a walk. The sun was lying low, and there it was the perfect contrast reflecting only beautiful colours. The most amazing part in this picture, was that I realized I had taken this picture only after when I checked my camera. This was the right mix between great lighting, timing, and luck.

Taking photos and making videos is a process that takes time. Sometimes too much time. It involves frequent stops, adjust settings, adjust lenses and whatnot. Most of the time, the person caught up in all this is my girl. And I end up following her all the time. So I have to make it up to her somehow. Take a nice photo of her, upload it on Unsplash and blast it across socials. Trust me, if she’d let me, I’d take more photos of her. She’s camera shy for the time being.

For me winter is how nature “resets it’s colorful pallet. Therefore in order to mess with nature (a bit), I dropped back and waited for my girl to move in the right spot. Didn’t tell her anything just slowed down while walking behind her. 1 shot - honest to God.

When my friends and I hopped in the car to spend a weekend at a friends cabin near the Zillertal in Austria I took my camera with me with the expectation of taking some snapshot-memories for the squad. As it turned out the sky was crystal clear the first night with no clouds which allowed an unbelievable look at the stars. I never felt so lucky taking my camera somewhere.
